Niels Prins, MD, PhD is the director of Brain Research Center. He and his colleagues are committed to Alzheimer’s disease and other brain diseases because he knows that clinical drug research can make a difference.
Ad Hoeks is responsible for the overall operations of Brain Research Center.
Mariska van der Heijden is the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Progress Clinical Research/Brain Research Center. She focuses on commercial growth, enhancing participant recruitment, and expanding therapeutic indications and the trial site network.
Mariska van der Heijden brings 25 years of experience in clinical drug research from various commercial and operational roles within the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Centocor (J&J), and CROs (CDC, TFS HealthScience, Veristat).
Samantha Prins, as Associate Director of Business Development, is responsible for acquiring new research projects and preparing for their execution.
Marco is Finance Manager at brain research center. He is responsible for all financial processes within brain research center.
With an academic background in biopharmaceutical sciences, Laura Bruins, MSc, as a Clinical Trial Start-Up Specialist, is responsible for contracting and initiating trials at all Brain Research Center sites. She also facilitates the submission process to the METC and the competent authority, CCMO, from Brain Research Center’s perspective by providing essential submission documents. Along with other Start-Up & BD colleagues, she serves as the point of contact for potential partners looking to collaborate with Brain Research Center, ensuring that all processes run smoothly and efficiently.
With a background in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and experience in immunology, dermatology, and Clinical Trial Applications submissions, Peter Jongste is responsible for contracting and initiating trials for all sites of Progress Clinical Research. In this role, he also facilitates the submission process to the METC and the competent authority from the perspective of Progress Clinical Research by providing essential submission documents.
With his expertise in study start-up and clinical trial submissions, Peter Jongste plays a key role in initiating clinical trials within the sites of Progress Clinical Research. As part of the Start-Up & Business Development team, Peter is an important point of contact for potential parties wishing to collaborate with Progress Clinical Research and contributes to collaboration and innovation within Progress Clinical Research.
Ester Verkerk is HR Manager at Brain Research Center. She is responsible for human resources management of the three sites.
As the Quality Manager, Joep Schepens oversees quality control and regulatory compliance within clinical trials. Serving as the primary contact for quality-related inquiries, Joep ensures that all processes adhere to the highest standards and regulations.
As the Brand Manager, Michael Vuong is responsible for brand identity and marketing activities. Serving as the primary contact for all brand-related matters, she ensures that both the brand and marketing strategies are consistently and effectively implemented, both offline and online. With extensive expertise in marketing, a comprehensive approach is adopted that encompasses all aspects of marketing.
Amsterdam site
Kim Verheul is Site Manager at Brain Research Center Amsterdam. She is responsible for the daily management of the Amsterdam site.
She is a nurse who coordinates and conducts visits of multiple clinical trials, being responsible for the planning and progress of the research.
Sabine Stal works at the Front Office of Brain Research Center Amsterdam.

Paul Dautzenberg, MD, PhD is medical director of Brain Research Center Den Bosch. He is in charge of the clinical team and all medical aspects of the studies.
Dr. Paul Dautzenberg also works as a clinical geriatrician at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital.
